St. Mary's and the Pylon diptych.

Here's a photograph of my two paintings of St. Mary's church and the pylon. Summer 2011.
I guess you could call it a diptych.
I used household emulsion tester pots and therefore I was limited with my colour pallate.

Here I used tester pots of matt emulsion.

They don't mix very well at all, so I discovered.

Here I have updated the original collage of the view from my window at 14 Alma Lane.

This is the only window I had in my room above the newsagents when I was at art college.

I have uploaded the collage into adobe illustrator and reworked the original image.

Eureka Tower Drawing Final Design Plus Light.

This drawing is a scaled up section from my original sketch.

Taken from the fist half of the sketch the detail is increased in scale by 50%

And enhanced.

With light!

Watercolour window with reflections.

These images are created using watercolours and pencils.

First of all I selected and stretched some paper.

Then I used a mixture of blues from my paint box to create a watercolour wash.

I then applied salt to the paper to experiment with drawing the colour as it dried.

I found that this assisted with the variegation of the blue across the paper. Leaving behind a rough texture which was interesting to work on top of with the pencils.

I aim to further develop this technique and explore the theme of reflections and architectural windows.

EUREKA TOWER.

"Eureka Tower is named after the Eureka Stockade, a rebellion during the Victorian gold rush in 1854. This has been incorporated into the design, with the building's gold crown representing the gold rush and a red stripe representing the blood spilt during the revolt. The blue glass cladding that covers most of the building represents the blue background of the stockade's flag and the white lines also represent the eureka stockade flag."

This drawing is inspired by the work of Charles Mikolaycak.

This one took 8 hours to complete.

I recreated this image in pencil and ink from the the cover illustration of a book entitled, "In the morning of time."

"It is a novelized re-telling of Norse mythology, as it is related to the two Icelandic Eddas.

The loss of the world's innocence, exemplified by the death of a god, Balder is the theme, although other Norse deities are skilfully introduced in the development of this theme."

The book - In the morning of time: The story of the Norse God Balder, was written by Cynthia King. Published by Scholastic Book Services in 1970. It includes several illustrations by Charles Mikolaycak.

I like the symbolism within the image I have chosen to recreate.

Although I don't fully understand the narrative yet as I have not read the novel.

Note the beard is shaped like a ship buoyant upon the ocean, or is it the mouth of a whale?

A tree or sail-scape is juxtaposed, what with the helmet of the bearded one amongst the shadowy clouds.

I have added light and reflection from a celestial body, but which one?

Very Mount Rushmoresque. Four faces, noses, eyes.
