How to draw a meteor shower.

How to draw a meteor shower?
Believe it or not. it's really easy.
All you do is draw the meteors using reverse tone. Black equals white and so on. Then simply scan your drawing and transform it into negative using a photographic enhancement programme.
The recent meteor showers have reached a dazzling peak. The Perseid Meteor Show. AKA the Tears of St. Lawrence, named due to the anniversary of his martyrdom AD 258.
I observed one last night, I think it was a meteor? It didn't look like a plane. It must have been a meteor because it disappeared along a trajectory. What with the Moon and local light pollution and cloud cover.
My drawings are based on some photographs I observed on the BBC NEWS website.

Paper bowl idea recycled.

Paper bowl idea. Made from recycled magazines.
I discovered this idea of how to make a bowl from old magazines or newspaper material from, Patricia Zapata on her BLOG: A LITTLE HUT
And...
Well here's my version, photographed on white paper and a mirror.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Long Queues 4 Banksy Versus Bristol Museum.

The queue for Banksy Versus Bristol Museum is very long.
Here is a panoramic photograph taken from the opposite side of the street from the museum on Queens Road, 06/08/09. The exhibition continues until the end of August. I didn't visit the exhibition on the day I captured this image of the queue as it snakes up University Road. I went back the next day, 07/08/09 and queued for one and three quarter hours before it opened at 10 am. I was 14th in the queue, I met two lovely people, Andrew and Dave from Bristol. We talked about anything and everything to pass the time. I saw families who had brought their own fold-a-way chairs to sit on. Coach loads of people arrived. I wonder how pleased Banksy and Bristol must be about the success of the exhibition in terms of the body count?

I was impressed and delighted by the content and range of his work. I got some ace photos. There are some classics and some funny twists hidden around the museum and galleries. One of my favourites has to be the chicken nuggets. Happy queueing!
Both sides of exhibition flyer scanned with kind permission.

The Moon at nine fifteen hundred hours.

The Moon at nine fifteen hundred hours.
These images are created using photography and collage.
I have added a border around a photograph using coloured newsprint, black sugar paper and felt.
After scanning sections of the finished pieces, I have stitched them together digitally.
Here is a link to the original photograph.

Boxed first quarter moon.

Boxed first quarter moon.
This creation is made from cardboard and poster paint.
It was Ceri's idea to cover my creation in foil, as you can see I gave up half way through.
I'm still not convinced this monstrosity is complete yet?
The idea for the title is derived from the box-shape I have implanted into the corrugated surface.

A collection of works submitted for exhibition.

A pencil sketch. Crescent moon, pylon, bridge and St Mary's church. There's a lot going on in this one. Ceri says it looks like a cell.
This geometric drawing is based upon the architectural features of a building. India Tower (previously known as Park Hyatt Tower) is a supertall skyscraper under construction in Mumbai, Maharashtra and will be one of the tallest and greenest buildings in India once completed.
Two images culled from my Farnham Art College Sketchbook 1993.
The first image is titled, 'Shop & Bin' and is based upon an urban facade with street furniture. Collage. The second collage is titled, 'The Swimming Pool Library.' Inspired by a novel by Alan Hollinghurst. Collage. I did a lot of swimming at the time.
A pencil sketch of the spire. A preliminary study for another work. Finished? The architects name eludes me.
A geometric study of the WTC Twin Towers and surrounding architectural features. Namely the 'trident'.

Watercolour window with reflections.

These images are created using watercolours and pencils.
First of all I selected and stretched some paper.
Then I used a mixture of blues from my paint box to create a watercolour wash.
I then applied salt to the paper to experiment with drawing the colour as it dried.
I found that this assisted with the variegation of the blue across the paper. Leaving behind a rough texture which was interesting to work on top of with the pencils.
I aim to further develop this technique and explore the theme of reflections and architectural windows.

Skyscraper Eureka Tower drawing.

"Eureka Tower is named after the Eureka Stockade, a rebellion during the Victorian gold rush in 1854. This has been incorporated into the design, with the building's gold crown representing the gold rush and a red stripe representing the blood spilt during the revolt. The blue glass cladding that covers most of the building represents the blue background of the stockade's flag and the white lines also represent the eureka stockade flag."
Image and text from Wikipedia.

My drawing inspired by Eureka Tower in Melbourne.
