Here is an image of my matrix which is converted into negative.

Here is a design I have created by duplicating some symbols from my matrix drawing.
It has a sky-at-night look about it.
It's a combination of the symbols, Taurus / astrology & Platinum / alchemy.
It is a full moon tonight.

Gothic Geometry.

My unicursal triquetra.

Pencil and ink.

3x vesica pisces.

A symbol of the sacred feminine.

I created these images by scanning sections from my sketchbook, adding text.

I have used tonal shading and cross hatching in the background.

A rubbing, in pencil, of a stone carving.

A circle and a cross.

My variation of an inverted pentagram, or a five pointed pentacle?

Drawing inspired by the work of Charles Mikolaycak.

This drawing is inspired by the work of Charles Mikolaycak.
This one took 8 hours to complete.
I recreated this image in pencil and ink from the the cover illustration of a book entitled, "In the morning of time."
"It is a novelized re-telling of Norse mythology, as it is related to the two Icelandic Eddas.
The loss of the world's innocence, exemplified by the death of a god, Balder is the theme, although other Norse deities are skilfully introduced in the development of this theme."
* Library Journal.
The book - In the morning of time: The story of the Norse God Balder, was written by Cynthia King. Published by Scholastic Book Services in 1970. It includes several illustrations by Charles Mikolaycak.
I like the symbolism within the image I have chosen to recreate.
Although I don't fully understand the narrative yet as I have not read the novel.
Note the beard is shaped like a ship buoyant upon the ocean, or is it the mouth of a whale?
A tree or sail-scape is juxtaposed, what with the helmet of the bearded one amongst the shadowy clouds.
I have added light and reflection from a celestial body, but which one?
Very Mount Rushmoresque. Four faces, noses, eyes.

Parkland statue sketch.

Parkland statue sketch, unfinished. 2008
I created this sketch one afternoon while one of my friends dozed and the other two completed a lap of the park on roller blades.
To me, the drawing is incomplete.
Rather a snapshot of a statue in context.
He has a book in his hand.
I could add some watercolours.
Moreover, it is completely unfinished.
The park was full of people passing time.
In the sunshine.
It has beautiful gates and fountains and gardens.
It has a museum and cafes and sculptures.
It has joggers, skaters and rollers.
Shirkers, illusionists, musicians, and contortionists.
The tree lined avenue with the perfect gradient was closed for refurbishment.
This time around anyway.
Hail, rain, fall or shine.
The best park in the world.
Let's go around one more time!

In the zone. Transit of Planet Ball!

"I serve the ball from me to you, I guess the score is LOVE. (SS)

Graffiti Solar System.

Graffiti font = Zenith.
I created the image below by drawing the symbols or glyphs on paper then I scanned it and converted it into negative, finally adding labels.

These planetary symbols are all made up of similar features or elements. Circle, dot, semicircle, cross in different combinations. The circle represents eternity, without end and the spirit. The dot inside a circle represents the spirit or the power coming out. The cross is the material world and the semicircle is the soul.

These symbols of the planets are linked with early types of graphical communication, they remind me of the symbols used in aboriginal art.

Graffiti aperture or oculus.

Images of graffiti sprayed upon an urban backdrop of concrete, displayed in the stairwell of a road bridge, spanning shipping, were captured by my digital camera.
I have caught the light cascading through the convergence of the open ribcage and the next level of the stairwell.

India dreams skyscraper design.

-
India Temple. "A skyscraper design for the new millennium."

My designs are inspired by the Indian Tower which was intended to become India's first super-tall skyscraper.

My designs were created by marking out a box 16x16 cm. Dividing this into 4 squares.
I have used tonal shading to enhance the line drawings and the geometry of the architectural symbolism.
The architectural concept of the building included a stacked box type structure, each one rotated slightly. These were to include sky-garden levels, each tall enough to grow trees. This type of skewed box style is an emerging architectural form, however the construction of the building in Mumbai was cancelled and replaced by DB Towers.

Check out these links to view some more of my work in pencil.

Campsite phone box sketch.

Pencil sketch of a campsite phone box.

This sketch was completed over the course of 3 days, while we sat chatting to each other and the international visitors. The phone boxes are blue and they hang on sun bleached yellow walls, they became very popular in the evenings, usually the one on the right which still has a working internal light. I have tried to capture some of the animation around the scene and a sense of place. The sketch has become smudged through carriage.

This Tuesday there's an eclipse coming!

Yes, this Tuesday (010808) a SOLAR ECLIPSE is swinging it's way upon us.

The path of totality will commence in Arctic Canada and travel across Greenland, Russia, Siberia, Mongolia and conclude in China. Totality will be witnessed by many fortunate indigenous people living in it's shadow and many, many travellers from around the globe, who are placing their ambitions in the oh~so random cosmos. Luckily for us Northern Europeans, a partial eclipse of the Sun will be visible, weather permitting, or fingers crossed for a cloud break.

A SYZYGY - wow - what a fantabulous word.

(...the alignment of 3 or more celestial bodies in the same gravitational system along a straight line.) What a happening! RARE. If you are reading this now, after the event, what was it like for you? Were you really there?

I have put together a few links to help out with your research.

What is Universal Time (UT)?

Path of the Eclipse.

Map of the Eclipse. (Google Earth)

Live WEBCAST from China. (NASA)

And here's a few links to some of my artwork, inspired by the cosmos.

SOLAR(FLOWERED) ECLIPSE

A PORTRAIT OF THE MOON

SUN(FLOWER)GLASSES

A VEGETABLE SOLAR SYSTEM

"On the said Tuesday, the Artist is away on location somewhere in Northern Europe (in a capital city park). Hoping to capture, post-worthy documentary evidence of a partial happenstance. Apparatus will include a digital camera, a home made solar viewer and a pair of solar shades. It's then onto an Internet Cafe, plugging into totality. Live Webcast China.
If only I could be there...well, there's always next time.

It does so, We do, and so does the Moon? But did you know what a SYZYGY is? I didn't. Thanks.
My home made solar viewer, built for the Transit of Venus 2004. Made from a cardboard box.

Rubbings of stone carvings in pencil.

Here is a collection of rubbings. Rubbings of stone carvings in pencil. I collected the images this morning, some of them came from St. John's. In this instance I have used a soft pencil (4B) .The images are created by placing paper over the symbol, motif or detail of choice and rubbing. I tended to rub back and forth in the same direction. Wax or chalk is just as effective. Then they were scanned, re sized and enhanced.
It's a continuation of the symbols, motifs and detail theme, below are designs including, oak leaf, circle and cross and a rolling scroll.
